It was great to see after eight years of just par teams being put together for the USA basketball team that they finally got the ship righted again. There is little doubt that the best basketball players in the world are in the US at the same time the rest of the world is catching up quickly. Evidence of that of course has been the last eight years of USA teams not winning tournaments or gold medals.
From the moment team USA lost the gold again in Athens the boss of USA basketball Jerry Colangelo has been on a mission to strip out everything that went wrong and rebuild the team from the ground up with the help of coach Mike Krzyzewski. Thankfully their goals and vision for the new USA team never wavered and the team was put together with no stone unturned and every angle considered. They were the driving force that brought these 12 professional superstars together with one goal to be a unified team with no superstar egos but a total package team.
Every player on team USA were great representatives of what a team should be both on the court as well as going out together in the Olympic village to other events to their final interview after winning the gold medal. They always stood together never showing any egos and always professing the greatness of teammates and the team. Even the two biggest superstars of the NBA LeBron James and Kobe Bryant who was the obvious favorite in China handled themselves with total class both on and off the court.
Being a huge NBA fan it was a real treat to see all these superstars come together putting any differences they may have aside and tursting in coach K’s team concept. Hopefully this team has set the bar for teams to come. For the best players in the world to want to come together away from their superstar status with one goal in mind to be a team.
