Feeling Cynical About PEDs In The NBA

So what are your thoughts on the recent revelation that basketball player Rashard Lewis of the Orlando Magic was caught taking steroids? To me it was more of a revelation that he is only the sixth person to test positive for a PED (performance enhancing drugs) since the NBA started testing for them for the better part of the last decade. I think the question that this raises to me and a lot of actual NBA reporters is how effective is the PED testing policy of the NBA if they have only managed to catch 6 people over the last decade?

Is it that the players in the NBA are just not using PED’s? Or is there something a bit more under handed going on that no seems to be reporting? It’s all speculation of course, speculation that has run over from all the stories of PED abuse in all the other major sports. Like baseball, football, cycling and the Olympics have all suffered the wrath of PED abuse by their athletes trying to stay on top of their sport no matter the cost.

Only The Sixth Man On PEDs?

Only The Sixth Man On PEDs?

You can’t tell that in this day and age of million dollar contracts and sporting franchises living and dying on the performance of their star athletes that your not wondering how PED all those athletes are using to be the super star athletes they are. Doesn’t six players over the course of a decade in a sport loaded with superstars seem almost out of the ordinary? Almost sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Is the NBA’s steroid policy and drug testing scheme really that good? Why haven’t all the other major sports been able to keep their sports that clean? I guess it’s just the cynical part of me that thinks if it sounds and looks to good to be true that it probably is….. here’s another perspective over at the ESPN blog.
